Week of September 9th

This week we are going to be doing our first cooking project Thursday and Friday and need your help. We would like to put create a friendship mix where each child contributes a little something from home to add to the mix, We will put out a sign out sheet this week! Remember when bringing in food we do have allergies, so make sure there are no NUTS, CARROTS, or STRAWBERRIES (so if you bring in Cherrios, they can not be Honey nut, M&M's need to be plain, etc).

Pictures
We are going to be doing our projects with the family pictures this week, if your child has not turned one in they won't be able to do that project until they do. We also need some pictures for cubbies!

Picture Day is September 25th
This year since 11 out of 13 of our friends come on Wednesday, we thought it would be fun to try to do one group picture on the 25th as well as our individual pictures. This may not work out as hoped but we are giving it a try. We will make sure not to do messy projects that day.

Kindred Visit
Our first visit to Kindred visit is Wednesday. If you do not come on Wednesday, you are welcome to bring your child and come with us! Some children love to visit with them while others are on the reserved side, we encourage all children to smile and say good morning, but they stay with us the entire time. You might want to talk with your child about this upcoming event.

Laps for Laps
Mark your calenders for the first family fun night, and fundraiser for Little Acorn on September 27th. This year instead of having your child selling books or cookie dough, we thought it would be fun do raise money for our first Laps for Laps, where you can get donations for your child to ride trikes, run or walk around a Lap then earn an ice cream or popsicle! Details will be in your cubby this week!

All-About Me Books
Please take the time to do your “All About Me” books with your kids. We have had a couple returned and they are a great way for the kids to get to know one another. Once they are shared we will keep them in the class so the kids can view them all year.

This week in the Star Class
This week in the Star class we are going to be talking about our families and friends. The first few days we will comparing and creating projects about our families, then moving on to projects that encourage us to work together, make new friends, and learn more about what makes us the same and different as our new friends at school.

Word Wall
We are starting our word wall this week! The letter of the week will be Ll for families and friends. Your child can bring in an item that starts with the letter of the week and we will write the word out and put on our word wall. They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

The More we get together
The more we get together, together, together

Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friendship

That's how long I want to be your friend

Newsletter - Sept 9th

Star Class News
Week of September 9th

Thank you for everyone for helping make the first year such a success! We had a wonderful start to the year and already the children are adjusting well. You may have been told by your children that their friends won't share. One thing we will be working on this year is that just because we want a toy and ask for it doesn't mean that our friends have to give it to us right away. It is a difficult concept that so far the kids are adjusting to fairly well.

Pictures
We still need a couple pictures from several of the kids for our class. Please send copies of the pictures just in case something happens to them. We need one picture for their Cubby (please no larger then 3X5) and one of your family. This year we are also asking each child bring in a 1” white binder for their portfolio. We will give it back at the end of the year full of your child's work and pictures.

Allergies/Medical Forms
If you are sending medication to school, please hand it to Teacher Jo and Teacher Jaylene. All medication needs to be prescribed to the children. We have a secure box that it needs to be placed in, along with the medical release forms needed for us to administer the medicine. If you need to take any prescriptions back and forth from school, we ask that you still give them to the teachers each day instead of leaving them in their backpack. That way we can get to it quickly if we need it.

Supplies
Thank you for all of the supplies we have gotten so far. It has been a wonderful start to the year knowing we have so many new markers, sharpies, and crayons. We still have a few friends that need to bring in their 1” white binder but other that that we are set for now.

All-About Me Books
We did not get the All About Me Books out last week, so look for them coming home this week in your child's cubby. Once they are complete, your child can bring them back to school to share with their friends, and we will hang it so they can look through it all year long.

This week in the Star Class
This week we will be getting to know each other a little more while we talk about what makes us special, what we like, and what we look like. We will also be exploring different emotions this week and talking about how the emotions make us feel and what we can do when we have these feelings. We will also be trying to make our own emotions chart.

Word Wall
We will be starting our word next week. We will not be going in alphabetical order, but I will let you know each week what the upcoming letter will be. We may stick with the letters for more than a week to make sure everyone gets a chance to bring items in that begin with that letter. This week I am inviting the children to bring in an item that can help us learn more about who they are. They can bring in something to share during our final circle that is special to them. Encourage them to put it in the pelican outside of our door so that it can be safe while we’re in class.

Newsletter - Sept 3rd

Star Class News
Week of September 3rd

Welcome to the Star Class! We are so excited about the year ahead and look forward to getting to know your family. This will be the only newsletter we print out for your cubby. If you did not get an e-mailed copy or need a hard copy each week, please let Teacher Jo know.

Pictures
We need a couple pictures of your child for our class.

If your child has any allergies, please provide us with a list of what they are allergic to and what kind of reactions you have seen in the past. We also need to have a medical release on file for any medication that needs to be left in the building. You can get a copy from Teacher Jo or in the preschool office from Teacher Maria.

All-About Me Books
This week we will be sending home a book that you and your child can fill out and decorate together. It’s a book about your child & family that we would like to keep in the classroom. After the children have had a chance to share their books, we will have them out in the class for them to look at and show their friends.

Good-Byes
The first few days of school can be hard (on the parents I mean). So I encourage you to have positive energy when you bring your child to school and say a short good bye at the door. You need to convey to your child that this is a safe fun place and you know that they are going to be fine. They need to know that you have confidence in them and their ability to go school and make new friends.

We look forward to building a positive partnership with you, so if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to talk with me after school or you can always reach me at
(360)771-1833 or e-mail me at Joanna@threepaw.com.

This week in the Star Class
This week we will be getting to know each other and the classroom. Starting something
new can be intimidating so we will be easing into our year with some simple projects and games that will help us make new friends and get to know the classroom. Since we are the Star class, we are going to be creating different types of Stars to decorate our classroom.
