Newsletter - June 8th

 Star Class News
Week of June 8th

Can you believe there are only two more days in class this school year?

Last week we had a lot of fun learning with and about the Ninja Turtles.   We practiced tracing Ninja Turtles (and I was very impressed with everyone's fine motor skill) and painting inside the turtle Circles.  We also practiced tearing paper and following directions to make some really fun Ninja turtles.  The kids even attempted to teach us who each Turtle is and what makes them special.  By the end of the week Teacher Jo was still confused as to which character was which but they kept on trying.

End or the Year Picnic
Our end of the year picnic is going to be June 10th at Felida Park.  We will be meeting at the park instead of in class that day!  This is a fun Pot luck to say good-bye to our school year!  Please check out the sign up sheet to see what you want to bring.

Summer Camp
Looking for some fun summer camps for your preschoolers this summer!  Little Acorn has 3 wonderful camps for only $95/child per week. (There is a discount if you have more than one preschooler).  Sign up today with a $25 non-refundable registration fee that will be applied towards camp tuition.

June 15-19 Art Explosion  (Class is Full)

July 13-17 Knights and Princesses
Welcome to the Kingdom of Little Acorn!  Your knight or princess will spend a fun week of make believe filled with dragons and castles.  They'll make crowns, shields, go on a dragon egg hunt and even have a dress-up day! We will have lots of outside play, sandcastle building and fun snacks.

July 20-24 Superhero Week
"Super Hero in Training" will be our theme of the week as we have fun with all our favorite super hero's!  Campers will make their own cape and mask and make some yummy SUPER snacks!  This week will be full of outside activities, water play and messy art. We will top the week off with dress-up day!

This week in the Star Class
With the last two days of school, we will be putting our paints away and projects just for the fun of it.  We will attempt spin markers with CD's taped to them to see what happens.  We also found some fun projects in our class that we can do.  As we play we will be closing up our classroom, putting toys away and closing sections.  We will also be able to visit our classrooms for next year to meet the teacher in those classes.

Word Wall
Normally we don't do word wall the last couple of days of school but the kids still seem to love it! So this week they can bring in any item they want and we will try to guess the letter it starts with and write it up on the board for them.

Wear your favorite color day

We will also be getting ready for our Spring Unit by doing some “Spring Cleaning” in the Star Class.  Even though the toys were sanitized at the beginning of Spring Break, we thought the kids would enjoy helping us clean the toys with soap and water in our sensory area.

Word Wall
As we get back into the swing of things we thought that it would be fun if your child wanted to bring in things to share from their Spring Break Adventures or something that starts with the letter Xx.  (Especially since this really is a hard letter to find things around the house for). They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

Yellow, blue, orange, red and green. (Wiggle each finger)
“Look,” said Yellow, “My sun is bright!” (Move yellow in a circle to make the sun)
Blue said, “Great! My river's just right!” (Wiggle blue back and forth to make a river) Orange said, “Flowers! I'll add some, too!” (Wiggle orange)

Star Class News
Week of March 16th

We loved the Laura Numeroff books we read last week.  It was fun creating characters from all of the books we read and the kids really enjoyed the healthy muffins we made on Thursday.  We were told by several of the children that animals should not get muffins, donuts, cookies, or pancakes....only animal food otherwise it could make them sick.  It was wonderful to see they understood that we really shouldn't share our food with animals.

The fuzzy caterpillar curled up on a leaf.
Spun her little chrysalis and then fell fast asleep.
While she was sleeping, she dreamed that she could fly.
And later when she woke up, she was a butterfly

Itsy Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy Spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

 Star Class News
Week of February 16th

We hope you all had a wonderful Valentines/Presidents Day weekend.  The weather this week has been wonderful and we hope it continues into next week.  Last Thursday, we were fascinated by our shadows and had to stop to “capture” them as we came in from outside.  As this weather continues we will be going outside as much as possible, (except for our Pajama Day).  Please remember to dress your children in layers.  Remember there is no school on Monday!

It was fun to see the kids run around for Laps for LAPS.  Thank you to everyone who participated.

Pajama/Valentines Party
Our last Valentines party is this Tuesday, February 17th in the Pajamas for a Valentines Pajama Party.

You are welcome to bring in Valentines.  You do not have to have your child address them but they can practice writing their own names if they want.  We know that several Valentines have treats that go along with them.  Lisa has provided a list of treats that are safe for children with Allergies.  They include:

1) Starbursts
2) Skittles
3) Surf Sweets Candy (they make a variety of things, including Valentine's Gummies) - a little harder to find, but I picked up the Valentine's ones at New Season's in Portland last night. Their website says that Natural Grocer's, Vancouver Food Co-op and Chuck's also carry their products. www.surfsweets.com  As an aside, they are also free of high-fructose corn syrup and a lot of other artificial ingredients).

Spread the Word
We have started our open registration for next year.   The best way to get our preschools name out there is for our families to spread the word.  If you hear of anyone looking for a preschool, please let them know what you think of our school and send them our way if you have had a good experience.  We have a 2 ½ year old class, 3 three year old options, (Star, Sunshine and Dragonfly), 3 four year old options (Dragonfly, Busy Bee, and Butterfly), and a Kindergarten class.

Box Tops
We will turn in box tops by March 1st.  Please bring any box tops you have and turn them in to the directors office or put them in our Box Top envelope hanging on our bulletin board.  The person who brings in the most box tops will receive a free ticket to the auction.

This week in the Star Class
This week we are going to be continuing our Mo Willems unit, reading and creating with books like Goldilocks and the three dinosaurs, Elephant and Piggie, and more.

Word Wall
This week we will be continuing with the letter Qq for Quilt or Queen.  Your child can bring in an item that starts with the letter of the week and we will write the word out and put on our word wall.  They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.
