Star Class News
Week of May 25th

Last week we started our Transportation unit, we made our own road, and our working on creating some cars.   We also loved singing a new version of one of our songs.... Teacher Jo messed up while teaching the Traffic light song and sang a new version that the kids loved and picked up very quickly.
End or the Year Picnic
Our end of the year picnic is going to be June 10th at Felida Park.  We will be meeting at the park instead of in class that day!  This is a fun Pot luck to say good-bye to our school year!  We will have a sign up sheet out soon!

Fit & Fun at First
The First United Methodist Church is hosting the fit and Fun at first.  Both the 5K walk/run and the 1K Run Run will travel through the beautiful Shumway and Rose Village neighborhoods. Parents are welcome to join their kids for the 1K Fun Run for free but only those 12 and under will receive FREE Tshirts. (Additional t-shirts may be purchased for $10). Following the run, join us for a neighborhood carnival with games, prizes and food.

Event schedule and times

8:15am Registration/Check-in Begins
9:00am 5K Run/Walk Begins
10:00am 1K Fun Run Begins
10:00am - noon Neighborhood Carnival

Progress Reports
Progress Reports are done and should be going out this week.  Watch for them in your child's cubbies.  Please remember that you are welcome to ask questions if you have any.  Also some children were not in the mood to “play games” with me when we tried, so if the results on the progress report are not what you expected it may have just been the mood of the child that day.

Summer Camp
Looking for some fun summer camps for your preschoolers this summer!  Little Acorn has 3 wonderful camps for only $95/child per week. (There is a discount if you have more than one preschooler).  Sign up today with a $25 non-refundable registration fee that will be applied towards camp tuition.

June 15-19 Art Explosion  (One Spot Available)
Amazing things can happen when art and science collide! Our budding artists will have fun bowling in paint, creating volcano art and perfecting their Jackson Pollack splatter techniques!

July 13-17 Knights and Princesses
Welcome to the Kingdom of Little Acorn!  Your knight or princess will spend a fun week of make believe filled with dragons and castles.  They'll make crowns, shields, go on a dragon egg hunt and even have a dress-up day! We will have lots of outside play, sandcastle building and fun snacks.

July 20-24 Superhero Week
"Super Hero in Training" will be our theme of the week as we have fun with all our favorite super hero's!  Campers will make their own cape and mask and make some yummy SUPER snacks!  This week will be full of outside activities, water play and messy art. We will top the week off with dress-up day!

Helmets
The weather is starting to get warmer, and we are able to spend more days outside.  We will be once again putting the bikes out on any nice days, so if your child wants to ride a bike, have them bring their helmets to school.  Our policy is if they do not bring a  helmet from home, they can not ride the bikes.

Elevator
The elevator is only for families with strollers, or people who need physical assistance.  At no time should a child be in the elevator by themselves.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

This week in the Star Class
This week we are going to be finishing up our Transportaion Unit by creating and discussing Trains and Planes.  We will be creating some fun hand-print trains (the last entry that will be going into our Portfolios), creating colorful trains, and making some paper Airplanes that we will experiment flying in class.  We will be doing some transportation patterns, and counting train cars, and learning what the kids know and can teach us about trains and planes.

Word Wall
We finished our alphabet last week...so this week we get to start all over and have some fun.  Instead of only having one letter, we will have multiple letters.  Your child can bring in items that start with any of these letters, and we will try to figure out by listening to the sound which letter it starts with.  This week we will be doing the letters: T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

The Wheels on the Train(Tune of Wheels on the Bus)

All along the track.
The whistle... goes whoo, whoo, whoo
The conductor... says, "All Aboard"
The people ... go bumpety, bump

I'm An Airplane (Tune: Clementine)
I'm an airplane, I’m an airplane
Flying up into the sky.
Flying higher, flying higher
As I watch the clouds go by.
I'm an airplane, I'm an airplane
See me flying all around.
 Flying lower, flying lower,
Till I land down on the ground.

We are going to the zoo (sung to London Bridges)

We are going to zoo,
To the zoo, to the zoo.
We are going to the zoo,
Won't you join us too?
We'll see lions, tigers too,
Tigers too, tigers too.
We'll see lions, tigers too,
All at the zoo.

We will find some chimpanzees,
Chimpanzees, chimpanzees.
we will find some chimpanzees,
Swinging from the trees.

We will look for kangaroos,
Kangaroos, kangaroos.
We will look for kangaroos,
Hopping at the zoo.
Add on your favorite zoo animals...

Star Class News
Week of May 4th

Last week we had fun learning about flowers and planting our seeds.  Please remember to water them and hopefully they will grow.  They are annuals, and would look love in a garden bed or flower pot.  My understanding is they can be planted in the pots that we provided.

Art ala Carte Fundraiser
We are partnering with Art ala Carte on Saturday May 9th, from 9-1.  Families can go to Art ala Carte and the kids can get messy and creative with all sorts of art mediums and activities.  Art ala Carte will donate 50% of sales from 9-1, back to the preschool!

Family Fun Night

I was informed yesterday that the 9:30 play on 5/19 is sold out. They are 30 seats short for us…I am sending out a notice to families to see if anyone is willing to attend them 11:45 show on 5/19.  Please make note of this in newsletters as well, thanks!

This week in the Star Class
Our caterpillars have been growing, and at the end of last we noticed they are all in their chrysalis.  We figure this is the best time to start our Butterfly and Bug unit.   We will be creating our own Caterpillars, and spinning them into a Chrysalis.  Then next week we will send them home and see if our caterpillars we made in class will turn into Butterflies.  We will also be talking about the lifecycle of a butterfly and making some fun bug creations.
