Week of October 27th

We can't believe this is the last week of October and Halloween is just around the corner!

Conferences
Parent Conferences are scheduled for Thursday November 6th (No School Thursday 11/6 or Friday 11/7). There is a sign-up sheet out to meet and discuss how awesome your child is! I will leave it out until Thursday, if you haven't had a chance to sign up I will try contacting you by e-mail to see if we can find something that will work.  If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss please email me this week so I can give it my full attention before we meet. If you need a special time please let me know and we can arrange something.

Class Parties
We will be having a class party for Halloween on Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31. Your child is welcome to wear a costume, and we will be parading through the building, as well as across the street at Kindred. We will be playing games and having  a special treat for snack.  We need some fruit for some fun Jack-o lanterns, a sign up will be out this week.

This week in the Star Class
This week we are going to be talking about real and pretend.  We will also be discussing things that might scare us, and see where it takes us.  As we get closer to Halloween, we will talk about Halloween safety and how important it is to stay with your adults, and what to do if you get scared.

Word Wall
This week we will be starting with the letter Ff for feather or finger (please don't bring in a real egg, we have an allergy and it can get really messy).  Your child can bring in an item that starts with the letter of the week and we will write the word out and put on our word wall.  They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

Trunk or Treat
The Church is sponsoring a fun family event called “Trunk or treat” on Sunday October 26th. The Parking lot will be filled with folks and their decorated “Trunks” for your kids to trick or treat at. LAPSK will have a trunk and the teachers will be dressed in costumes. Watch for a flyer in your kids cubbie box with the full info.

Conferences
There will be a sign-up sheet out this week for conferences. They will be held on Thursday, November 6. Let me know if that day doesn't work for your schedule. We can find another time to meet, either before or after school one day.

Scentsy Fundraiser
If you haven't had a chance to get your scentsy order in, don't worry.  We have extended the end date!  We will be having a mini fundraiser to help you get a start on your holiday shopping with Scentsy warmers and scents.  This fundraiser will run thru October22th.  I understand that 100% of the profits are donated to Little Acorn.  Thank you, Karli!!

Other Fundraisers
Since LAPSK is a non profit preschool, fundraising is an important piece of our program.  Other then the Scentsy fundraiser, we also have some other fundraisers that you can look into including: Kiggens Theater, Usborne Book eFair, Scholatic books, and box tops!  Some of these will continue all year, others have end times.  Please take part in as many of the fundraiser as you feel comfortable!

This week in the Star Class
This week we will be exploring with the pumpkins. We will be creating our own pumpkin pictures, painting with pumpkins, and pounding pumpkins.  We will also open up the pumpkin we got at the pumpkin patch and be able to explore the inside of the pumpkin.  Teacher Jo is going to also start assessing the children to prepare for our conferences, remember that all children learn differently and at different rates, they will all pass being 3 or 4.

Week of October 12th

Picture Day was a success, we were so excited that all of the Star Class were in one photo!  Last week we had a lot of fun exploring and talking about the changes we see in the fall, continue watching and talking about the leaves changing color.

Pumpkin Patch
This week we will be going to the Vancouver Pumpkin Patch at Velvet Acres on Thursday and Friday at 9:30.  Please remember that parents are responsible for transporting and staying with their kids during this field trip, so we will meet you there! The address is:  18905 NE 83rd St., Vancouver, 98682.  To learn more about the pumpkin patch before visit their website at www.vancouverpumpkinpatch.com

We will be collecting money this week.  The cost is $5 per child and will include a pumpkin for your child (they must be able to carry it), petting zoo, hay ride, and hay tunnel.  Adults are free unless they want to take a pumpkin!  If parents choose to get a pumpkin they can pay the $5 fee or pay .25/lb for their pumpkin.

Spanish Friday
This week we will not be having Spanish Friday due to the pumpkin patch.  We are working on getting a handout to those that come on Friday so you can practice at home or at least know they are trying if you hear them singing them!
