Newsletter - May 11th

Star Class News
Week of May 11th

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Mothers Day weekend.  The weather was wonderful all weekend! Last week we started one of my favorite Caterpillar projects and we will be finishing them up this week. It is a multiple stage project, starting with creating caterpillars, then putting them in a “Chrysalis”.  At the end of the week we hope to send them home for you all to unwrap.  (Be careful unwrapping them, they may have turned into Butterflies.)

Playground Clean-up
Our playgroud clean-up is this Saturday.  We could use your help pulling weeds, adding sand and gravel to our playground and cleaning out our toy bin!  The more help the easier and more fun the work is! Please join us at the school from 9-11 on Saturday to help, this time will go toward your volunteer time if you still need to complete it and it is our last opportunity to get then time done!

Family Fun Night
We have one more Family Fun Night this year.   Thursday 5/21, 5:30-7 will be our Math and Science Family Fun Night where you can come play games, have some hands on Science Experiences, and have fun with the staff here at Little Acorn.

Summer Camp
Looking for some fun summer camps for your preschoolers this summer!  Little Acorn has 3 wonderful camps for only $95/child per week. (There is a discount if you have more than one preschooler).  Sign up today with a $25 non-refundable registration fee that will be applied towards camp tuition.

June 15-19 Art Explosion  (Limited Space)
Amazing things can happen when art and science collide!  Our budding artists will have fun bowling in paint, creating volcano art and perfecting their Jackson Pollack splatter techniques!

July 13-17 Knights and Princesses
Welcome to the Kingdom of Little Acorn!  Your knight or princess will spend a fun week of make believe filled with dragons and castles.  They'll make crowns, shields, go on a dragon egg hunt and even have a dress-up day! We will have lots of outside play, sandcastle building and fun snacks.

July 20-24 Superhero Week
"Super Hero in Training" will be our theme of the week as we have fun with all our favorite super hero's!  Campers will make their own cape and mask and make some yummy SUPER snacks!  This week will be full of outside activities, water play and messy art. We will top the week off with dress-up day!

Volunteer Hours
Our class has been doing great at helping our school with their volunteer hours.  We have a mandatory 2 hours per year, per child.  I you haven't had a chance to get your hours in remember:   Playground clean-up is the last chance to get in their hours or to help out our school one last time this year if you already got your hours in!!!

Helmets
The weather is starting to get warmer, and we are able to spend more days outside.  We will be once again putting the bikes out on any nice days, so if your child wants to ride a bike, have them bring their helmets to school.  Our policy is if they do not bring a  helmet from home, they can not ride the bikes.

Elevator
The elevator is only for families with strollers, or people who need physical assistance.  At no time should a child be in the elevator by themselves.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Seussical Jr.
Thank you all for being understanding about the available seating for the Seussical play and for some of you moving to another time slot.  This is going to be a wonderful show!  Don't forget to stop by the office and pay for your tickets if you haven't already done so.

This week in the Star Class
This week we are going to be finishing up our Butterflies, then moving on to the zoo.  We are going to be doing fun zoo projects, as well as getting our assessing done for our end of the year progress reports.

Word Wall
We finished our alphabet last week...so this week we get to start all over and have some fun.  Instead of only having one letter, we will have multiple letters.  Your child can bring in items that start with any of these letters, and we will try to figure out by listening to the sound which letter it starts with.  This week we will be doing the letters : G, H, I, J, K, L and M. They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

We are going to the zoo (sung to London Bridges)

We are going to zoo,
To the zoo, to the zoo.
We are going to the zoo,
Won't you join us too?
We'll see lions, tigers too,
Tigers too, tigers too.
We'll see lions, tigers too,
All at the zoo.

We will find some chimpanzees,
Chimpanzees, chimpanzees.
we will find some chimpanzees,
Swinging from the trees.

We will look for kangaroos,
Kangaroos, kangaroos.
We will look for kangaroos,
Hopping at the zoo.
Add on your favorite zoo animals...
