Newsletter - March 16th

Star Class News
Week of March 16th

We loved the Laura Numeroff books we read last week.  It was fun creating characters from all of the books we read and the kids really enjoyed the healthy muffins we made on Thursday.  We were told by several of the children that animals should not get muffins, donuts, cookies, or pancakes....only animal food otherwise it could make them sick.  It was wonderful to see they understood that we really shouldn't share our food with animals.

Monday
Our class will be meeting in the Star Class on Mondays!  We will have a small group, but this will give us opportunities to work closely with each child.  It is not too late to add Mondays if you are interested.

Hough St. Paddys Day Parade - Tuesday
Tuesday March 16th our school will be walking in the Parade to celebrate St. Patricks Day and our wonderful community.  We will be releasing students 15 minutes early to have time for them to eat lunch and meet us at the parade around 12:15.  It starts at Hough Elementary School and goes in a loop through the neighborhood and onto main street then back to the school.  It is a very easy walk and strollers, wagons, etc.  are welcome.  Please consider coming with your family and showing your support for our school by joining us in the parade.  Please remember, parents are responsible for transporting and supervising their children during this event.

Family Breakfast and Art Show - Saturday
On Saturday March 21st, we would like to invite you and your family to join us to for breakfast to celebrate our wonderful families and childrens art.

Auction Basket
We will start collecting items for our Classroom Basket.  This year the Star Class will be putting together a gift wrapping basket.  We are looking for donations of Wrapping Paper, Tape, Gift Bags, Tissue Paper, Bows, decorations, etc.  Donations are not mandatory but if you want to help create a wonderful basket you can either bring in any Gift Wrapping materials or donate money and we will purchase the items.

Auction
Mark your calender for our Auction Saturday April 18th at Big Al's.  Tickets will go on Sale March 16th!  Tickets will be $18/person, or $34/couple until April 10th.  After April 10, tickets will be $22/person or $40/couple.  This is an adult-only night, and a night where we can have lots of fun, play games and have a good time.
**Families who purchase auction tickets will get free bowling coupons

Library Fieldtrip
Next week, we will be having our Library Field trips on  March 24th and 25th.  We will be meeting at the downtown library a little before 9:30.  You are welcome to come to either of the Library days, or to both if you would like.  I will have a sign up out this week, please let me know if you plan on attend and what days so we know who to watch out for!

Just a reminder to our new families:
The pre-school has the policy that you, as parents, are responsible for transporting your own child to and from field trips. Teachers may not transport the children. If you cannot transport your child, then you may authorize another parent to do so. This needs to be done in writing.

This week in the Star Class
This week we will be learning with Eric Carle.  We will be creating our own Eric Carle paper, mixing colors and using different materials to make the paper look textured.  Once dried we will be creating out own pictures using our paper.  We will also be creating gak (also known as flubber) in our class, and then learning what happens when we color on it with markers.

Word Wall
This week we will be continuing with the letter Uu for Underwater and Umbrella.  Your child can bring in an item that starts with the letter of the week and we will write the word out and put on our word wall.  They can put their item in our pelican that is by the word wall.

Fuzzy Caterpillar

The fuzzy caterpillar curled up on a leaf.
Spun her little chrysalis and then fell fast asleep.
While she was sleeping, she dreamed that she could fly.
And later when she woke up, she was a butterfly

Itsy Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy Spider went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

Continue with Big Gigantic spider or weensy teensy spider.
